DR. SONYA GRACI is a specialist in sustainable tourism, corporate sustainability, stakeholder management, community capacity development and environmental management. She has more than 20 years experience in the field. Dr. Graci’s passion is working with stakeholders towards achieving sustainability. She has worked with numerous communities and organizations in developing their sustainability strategies and has facilitated several training programs and workshops. She has also led extensive consultation with stakeholders for businesses and communities across North America, Central America, and Asia. Dr. Graci works with businesses in waste management, food and beverage (breweries, wineries, restaurants); tourism (tour operators, hotels, airlines) and with tourism destinations.
Dr. Graci has seven years experience working at the Ontario Ministry of the Environment. She worked as a Senior Planner in the Environmental Assessment and Approvals Branch and as a Senior Project Officer developing beyond compliance partnerships between the government and chemical industry, as well as playing a role in the development of Ontario’s environmental leaders program.
Dr. Graci is currently an Associate Professor at the Ted Rogers School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada. She was the co-founder and member of the Board of Directors for the Icarus Foundation, a not-for-profit environmental, policy, research and education organization focused on sustaining a climate friendly tourism industry. Dr. Graci holds a Ph.D. from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada. The focus of her Ph.D. was on corporate social responsibility and sustainable tourism partnership development. Dr. Graci has also authored numerous publications and two books.
